Application of Remote Traffic Microwave Sensor (RTMS)

1. What is RTMS

RTMS (Remote Traffic Microwave Sensor) is a reproducible radar device used to monitor traffic conditions. It can measure the distance of targets within the microwave projection area, detect stationary and moving vehicles in multiple lanes through distance, and use the principle of radar linear frequency modulation technology to emit microwaves on the road surface. Through high-speed real-time digital processing and analysis of echo signals, it is a non-contact traffic detection device that detects basic traffic flow information such as traffic flow, speed, lane occupancy rate, and vehicle type information.

2. Application areas of RTMS

RTMS is mainly used for collecting traffic parameters of highways, urban expressways, ordinary highway traffic flow survey stations, and bridges, providing real-time information such as traffic flow, speed, lane occupancy, and vehicle types. This information can be connected to the controller through an isolation contactor or to other systems through a serial interface, providing data support for traffic control management, information dissemination, etc.

3. The shortcomings of traditional microwave vehicle detectors

a. Poor speed measurement accuracy

In situations where the traffic volume is small and there is a large difference in the speed of different vehicles, the instantaneous speed measurement accuracy of traditional microwave vehicle detectors is very poor. In situations where there is a large volume of traffic and the difference in vehicle speeds is not significant, the accuracy of the average vehicle speed can only reach about 90%.

b. Using the testing and installation method may result in the problem of small cars being blocked by large vehicles on the side road, causing the problem of missing vehicles.

c. The installation environment is harsh and can only be installed on flat and straight roads, requiring independent installation rods.

4. The advantages of multi-target radar

The MTR multi-target radar adopts advanced multi-target tracking technology, which is different from traditional microwave vehicle detectors. It can track 64 targets in real time and accurately obtain the x and y coordinates of each vehicle. It can be installed in a forward or oblique direction, with extremely high speed accuracy and a speed measurement accuracy of up to 99%. Installation is very convenient and not affected by the terrain conditions of the installation location.
